Let us speak again of the Antikythera Mechanism
Following the opening of the exhibition on “THE ANTIKYTHERA MECHANISM”, on the 22nd of October, a scientific Symposium has been organized by The Ionic Centre for the following day, October 23, from 6.00 to 9.00 p.m. Its aim is to present the latest discoveries and to discuss the ensuing theories that are related to this significant find, as well as to identify new cultural and scientific questions and issues that the recent discoveries present.
Presenters will be the members of the Antikythera Mechanism Research Project team: Prof. Ioannis Seiradakis, astronomer; Prof. Xenophon Mousas, astrophysicist; Agamemnon Tselikas, philologist-palaeographer; and Yannis Bitsakis, specialist researcher. Additional speakers will be Prof. Theodosios Tassios, President of the Association for Ancient Greek Technology Studies and a member of the exhibition’s Organizing Committee, and Michael Wright, researcher-constructor of a Mechanism model and Historian of Mechanics at the Imperial College of London. In addition there will speak science historians Euthymios Nikolaidis and Constantinos Skordoulis. Other scientists are also invited to address the subject, while the public is welcome to place questions. The Symposium proceedings will be chaired by Isidoros Kioleoglou, President of The Ionic Centre.
